Why Not???

June 17, 2011 By Jonathan

The SJP train has been rolling of late. With multiple dates each week, we are really getting going. I wanted to take a second to reflect on why I love being my own boss and owning a business with my favorite person in the world, SJ.

When was the last time you were able to bring a smile to someone’s face with the snap of your fingers? I don’t want to brag too much about her but last night SJ was awesome. Twice she saw a chance to make someone happy and jumped at it.

We were at our East Atlanta Farmer’s Market last night and a young lady with her two children came up. They were all very excited about trying our pizza. That was until after they ordered. They wanted to pay with EBT coins, which the market generally takes, but I informed them that we can’t accept them because we are a prepared food and we are not allowed. Saddened and dejected, she began to turn and leave when SJ stepped in and told them that she would love to make them a pie and just let her know what they wanted. The happiness in SJ’s eyes and the young lady’s was the ultimate. With a smile and many thank you’s, they enjoyed dinner on S & J's Woodfired Pizza.

As the night continued and the oven was flaming, another opportunity crossed our paths and she stepped in again. Sitting on the new bench at the market, she watched as a young man was enjoying a delish ‘za. He proceeded to accidentally lose control of the pizza, and it fell to the ground. With an understandably saddened heart, he began to walk away. SJ yelled ” Hey man, we got you another one”. He didn’t stop and so she yelled again. Still the man walked away, until another patron ran and caught him and told him the great news. He was so appreciative, and it really made the night.

Before SJP, in order to make a decision Sarah or I would have to send an email, set up a meeting, have a meeting, send some more emails and then be informed by our boss that they needed to talk to their boss and we would get an answer in a week or so. That sucked. SJ making split second decisions last night just because they felt like the right thing to do is the way for me. People aren’t numbers and some decisions aren’t hard. Why wouldn’t you want to be your own boss?

Thanks SJ.

Outdoor Oasis

May 3, 2011 By Jonathan

I thought we were getting a little too bogged down with business and not enough pleasure. Well, that was the thought before the week long backyard makeover.

Our backyard was transformed from a mud pit, drainage ditch and black hole of grass to a awesome deck with new plants, new energy and a whole new look. My dad helped me build it and with the help of “S” of S & J's Woodfired Pizza the dream became a reality. If I just knew someone who could christen it with something new and different like a backyard pizza party. Check out the pics.

May 29, 2010 By Jonathan

If you are reading this now, you have realized that we have gone live with sjwoodfiredpizza.com.  Jeff Cohan, Sarah’s dad and owner of nsiteful, has been a huge help in getting our website off the ground.  I just wanted to take a second to show my loyal readers around the website.  On the home page, there are links to our facebook page and our blog.  Before Sarah and I became business partners, we were best friends and then boyfriend and girlfriend.  This business is more than just business to us.  It is our “clan”.  We want to share with you aspects of S & J's Woodfired Pizza but also aspects of our regular family life.  Food is about more than taste and appearance. It is about love and family and you will find out more about our clan in the about us section.  Also, throughout the website you will find links to our foundation.  This is an important part for us.  It’s our core beliefs and how Sarah and I approach life.

Not only doimg_3625 we give you a look into our lives but we plan on serving great wood-fired pizza.  I want to make the best pizza you have ever had.  Whether it be ideas about different topping combinations, coments on our dough or sauce or any other menu items check out the section For Those Who Need Inspiration.  There you can leave comments and we will have a poll that you can vote for your favorite items.  I want sjwoodfiredpizza.com to be the best site on the web and S & J's Woodfired Pizza to be the best pizza you have had.  We want to interact with you and have you talk to us.  You can leave comments on my blog and also pingbacks to your own blog.    For those of you who have already caught THE FEVER, we will have a selection of S & J's Woodfired Pizza gear available shortly.  So check back soon and often and see whats new and awesome about S and J.

Can YOU Hear ME Now

May 1, 2010 By Jonathan

We are Sarah and Jonathan of S and J’s Woodfired Pizza. This business is going to be awesome. It’s the brain child of loving pizza, eating together as a “clan” and being outdoors. Both Sarah and I have grown into hating our jobs, hating to go to work and hating to not be our own boss. Sarah and I love pizza, love being our own boss and love being in control of our lives. We don’t need THE MAN. Do you? So, S & J's Woodfired Pizza took form.

If You Wanted More

May 1, 2010 By Jonathan

Our “clan” consists of 2 adults, 1 child, 1 dog, and three cats.

These days we spend as much time as possible at home enjoying the simpler things and trying to take life slow. Sarah and I like taking my (joyful, curious, hysterical, adorable, and extremely active) 2-yr-old son, Grayson, on nature walks, and spending long afternoons relaxing in the sun is high up there on the priority list. Cooking dinner at home is a nightly tradition.

I am the chef of the house (yeah… we’re not much for tradition) and Italian night is always the favorite. Along with Italian, we love mexican fiesta night, who doesn’t love a delish margarita, but our real passion is pizza and pasta. When I’m not cooking, I love to kick it at The Drayton, our pool, play playstation and wii, enjoy a delish beer and watch my son, Gman, get into anything and everything.

When Sarah isn’t helping me watch Grayson, she loves photography and scrapbooking. You would think that she single handley keeps hobby lobby in business. As an avid scrapbooker and budding photographer, she has colored the walls of our house from top to bottom. Although not much of a cook, Sarah can toss a pizza like nobodys business and isnt afriad to get her hands dirty in the kitchen and help me out whenever she can.

Grayson on the other hand is the oppsoite of help. If he isn’t plucking unripe tomatoes from my plants in the backyard, he is pushing his Lightning Mcqueen truck around the house. He loves to be outside running around, walking on hiking trails, in the pool or watching the dvd Cars. With the foundation set, I’ll add a little more for each of you fans every so often so you can keep up with the whole lives of S & J's Woodfired Pizza. We are more than a business and you will catch that here.
