Not in the Loop, Come Join US

July 26, 2010 By Jonathan

Here is quick update on our progress here at S & J's Woodfired Pizza.  We have received our sales tax and withholding information from the state of Georgia.  That doesn’t really mean anything to y’all but that will keep SJ busy with paperwork.

Our Canopy
The S & J's Woodfired Pizza Canopy

We have also acquired a pizza prep table, canopy, generator, pizza peels and pans, pizza cutters and a hot water dispenser.  We only need a few more small wares and perfection will be achieved.  And oh yeah, we need the oven.  Oven shipment is scheduled for August 3rd and will hopefully be on premise a few days later.  Good news to all those who live close there will be delish wood-fired food will be coming from the oven everyday as we cure it and learn the ins and outs of our specific little bundle of joy.

Along with acquiring material things to get us going, we have been placed on the catering list of Sweetwater Brewery in Atlanta GA and Terrapin Brewery of Athens GA.

I have also been in contact with many of the local farms arranging different suppliers for our veggie and meat needs.  If you have any recommendations please let me know.  Also, please check back because I will be posting which farms we decide to work with and will be posting links to their web pages.  Its so cool to talk to these local farmers and deal with people who have the same appreciation for food that I do.  Trust me, the products that we will be featuring will blow your mind.  Check back often for more updates and find out what will be served each night as we use our oven and work towards our kick off party.

Coming to the People

May 29, 2010 By Jonathan

We are coming to you.  S & J's Woodfired Pizza was accepted this week to the  Grant Park Summer Shade Festival in Atlanta GA on August 28-29.  This is a huge event.  The expected attendance is 25,000 people.  I can’t imagine a better way to break out S & J's Woodfired Pizza than to 25,000 hungry people on a hot day in Atlanta GA.

Summer Shade - Corks and Forks - Grant ParkPlanning has already started on how we are gonna be able to do the event. How many dough balls to bring? How much cheese, etc…?  We are just so thrilled to be accepted and can’t wait to get off the ground.  We are now 4 for 4 in applying and being accepted to festivals in GA.  It seems as though maybe we are not the only ones who think this is a good idea since event coordinators accept us and want to check us out.  The Summer Shade Festival will be our first public appearance but we will also be throwing a kick off party a week or so earlier in an attempt to work out any kinks and also give the people what they want. FREE PIZZA.  Check back later for more information on this event and be in Grant Park on Aug 28-29 to support us and fill your bellies.  You know you want to.

Legalization

May 29, 2010 By Jonathan

S & J's Woodfired Pizza is now legal.

I went on Wednesday and signed a contract with Shared Kitchens, LLC.  This allows us to prepare all of our delish food in a health department approved kitchen keeping both you and I safe.  Along with signing our contract, we applied for our business license in the city of Suwanee GA and got approved.  As soon as we receive it in the mail, I will post in the photo gallery so check back for a picture of it. Not only does this make us legal and legit, it takes a huge weight off both Sarah and I’s shoulders.

Getting all the legal mumbo jumbo and business aspects out of the way will hopefully make things more fun in the future.  I am in it to cook and prepare delicious food, not to stand in line at a crowded courthouse to fill out documents or call inspectors on the phone.  Sitting in front of a roaring fire with unbelievable smells and a cold beer in my hands is a little more my style. So now with the formal stuff taken care of, I can focus on how to make the food we serve the best it can be.

Last night, I took my beautiful girlfriend, Sarah, on a “home date”.  We had chicken scallopine with blue cheese sauce and handmade potato gnocchi.  It was delish. Still some improvements to be made but the base is there.  Cooking is supposed to be fun so now hopefully with the state of Georgia satisfied I can focus more of the satisfaction of you and I.
