Jonathan vs Macgyver

June 1, 2011 By Jonathan

I know what you are thinking, “This is a battle Royal of hair”. But no. This is a match of wits. This of course is an easy match to pick. I would take Macgyver all day long that is until he takes on the likes of Chuck Norris, a man/machine who towers over all.

I tried my hand at some Macgyver-like actions a few weeks ago after I comitted one of the cardinal sins of the mobile pizza business. I forgot the oven tools when we went to Brookwood Farmer’s market a few weeks ago. I guess it could have been worse because I could have forgotten the wood or the dough which I couldn’t have replaced but none the less there I was with a fire, pizza dough, and hungry customers. The only impass though would be the fact that I am not Inspector Gadget and cannot reach my arm into an 800 degree oven and pull out a pizza pie.

Armed with a debit card and some old episodes of Macgyver in my head, I went to home depot to craft a solutuion. $65 and 30 minutes later I had a roll of duct tape, a wooden handle, a metal brush head, a grill brush, rebar wire, and an edging shovel. What could you make with such? In the end, the pizzas were made and served and I think people were happy but I wasn’t. I need my tools. I mean would you tell Indiana Jones “no whip”. I don’t think so, unless you were Macgyver or Chuck Norris.

Outdoor Oasis

May 3, 2011 By Jonathan

I thought we were getting a little too bogged down with business and not enough pleasure. Well, that was the thought before the week long backyard makeover.

Our backyard was transformed from a mud pit, drainage ditch and black hole of grass to a awesome deck with new plants, new energy and a whole new look. My dad helped me build it and with the help of “S” of S & J's Woodfired Pizza the dream became a reality. If I just knew someone who could christen it with something new and different like a backyard pizza party. Check out the pics.

Pickin’ and Pizza

April 19, 2011 By Jonathan

That was the name of the game this past weekend at Bear on the Square in Dahlonega GA. It was a very good weekend. It was nice weather, camping, good music and good food. How can you beat that? Its always cool to meet new people and have different experiences, and this weekend was full of both.

Katie WoodFrom camping each night, to meeting TKC with their chicken gords, to having a makeshift bluegrass jam session by our campfire, to watching the selling power of Katie Wood, it was good times had by all. S & J's Woodfired Pizza broke out our new product, fresh mozzarella cheese from Atlanta Fresh Creamery. It is so delish and makes the pizzas just that much better. Despite some internal debate it made it to the menu this weekend and sold like hot cakes. Katie wood moved about 2lbs of mozzarella in 45 minutes. Thats how good the cheese is but also how good Katie manages the front of the house.

I am in the process of trying to find some new sausage for us and locating some pepperoni from some local butchers. Various spring and summer veggies are coming into season and if you know anyone who has a great product that would go good on pizza please don’t hesitate to contact us. I am always looking for new stuff to make our pies better than anyone else. Our calendar is filling up and as the weather gets warmer look for SJP to be around Atlanta at various farmer’s markets and events. I love what I do.

Rain Rain Go Away

March 29, 2011 By Jonathan

That was the motto for this past weekend at the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival.  Unfortunately,  as good as I am at stopping rain and making the sun shine thru the clouds, I was unsuccessful this weekend.

There was delicious pizza aplenty but the open mouths were few and far between. Despite this setback, S & J's Woodfired Pizza is ready to bounce back. We are currently working on coming up with a new sausage supplier, since BPH farms is no longer in business, and we are also working with Atlanta Fresh Creamery to get some fresh mozzarella cheese in the mouths of our hungry followers. To those of you looking at SJP for a possible caterer, please know you won’t go wrong.  With the ingredients I’m pulling together and the already outstanding dough and sauce, we just keep getting better.  Join the ride.

From the Office of the Hungriest President in the World,
Jonathan
